I was born on a Monday
In the thickening snow.
So, it’s safe to say that
hard work is a habit
That lives in my bones.
i’M Tyler Stenson.
As a child, I’d record songs from the radio to tape, playing them back line-by-line and hand-writing them on paper to get closer to the words.
My love for lyric — impactful language of any kind — is my most enduring truth.
From award-winning songwriter to agency copywriter to brand manager to Head of Writing to Head of Communications, I’m a self-proclaimed Soldier for the Muse. All I’ve done over the last two decades has been in the loyal service of crafting narratives, wielding words, and shaping stories that connect and compel.
This primal passion for designing language on behalf of brands was exemplified and amplified over the last eight years. As the Head of Writing for Thesis, I led and grew the Writing team from 5 to 43 to support projects from clients such as Nike, Adobe, HP, and Spotify. As the agency evolved beyond its email roots, I proudly put “client work” aside for a season to co-lead the company’s rebranding efforts (eROI → Thesis). I was integral in designing and implementing a tide-shifting brand identity and architecture that re-introduced our agency to the public, our customers, and, perhaps most importantly, our internal teams.
I experienced firsthand the positive impact of a strong brand on internal teams, company culture, and external perceptions.
Recognizing this value, as a Senior Leader, I volunteered to transition from Creative Leadership, stepping up as a company steward to strengthen the connection between Thesis’s brand and its employees. As Head of Communications, I drew upon my Creative background and intimate understanding of the brand to establish the agency’s first-ever Communications department, defining a unified house style and developing best practices to engage both internal teams and the external community effectively.
My unique path through entrepreneurship, artistry, agency copywriting, strategic marketing, creative direction, and communications leadership has been non-linear — but I have superpowers to show for it.
I’m grateful for the winding journey and how it has fire-forged me into a seasoned Writer, Creative Director, and cross-functional Leader with a unique perspective, unparalleled resilience, and an undying desire to impact the world with simple, sledgehammer-like words.
